Aloha Poke Co is a Midwest based restaurant that has aggressively threatened Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) families with legal action for the use of the word “Aloha” in their business or social media.
We grew up here in the islands understanding that Aloha in its purest form, is freely shared without hesitation and given from the heart. Like many, we believe in respecting the culture of Hawai’i in all forms, including the use of language in these modern times.
The design was created with the intent of sharing our concept of Aloha. Using a brush and ink gives it a laid back feel. Subtly crossing out the registered trademark symbol is a simple but powerful visual reminder of the designs purpose.
Aloha is free. Never owned. Always shared.
The designer has chosen to remain anonymous. The only request is that the artwork be made available and used freely, at no cost, by anyone interested in spreading this message of Aloha in its truest form.
If you would like to help spread this message of Aloha, a link will be created to download the graphic files.
Shirts are now available exclusively at Hana Pa'a Fishing Co. in Kalihi (1733 Dillingham) and Pearlridge Center. Or can be purchased online
Or as mentioned above, request a file of the artwork and print your own.
Aloha is Free.
